Quality of Teaching and Learning in Geography

At Shustoke we want to provide a Geography curriculum that is inclusive and one that provides excitement, creativity and critical thinking about the world we live in.  Children study Geography from local, national and global perspectives to gain real understanding of the world.  Ensuring the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills; and for the children to develop a love for geography.  We aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

All children study Geography throughout their time at Shustoke and they are given opportunities to learn in a variety of ways, which include fieldwork, assemblies, using ICT, the use of external experts or workshops.  We are fortunate enough to be situated in a wonderful rural environment which lends itself well to fieldwork.  Our commitment to developing and maintaining children's Cultural Capital is an intrinsic part of the Geography Curriculum.
