Safety Week

During our recent PSHE Safety Week, pupils across the school took part in a wide range of practical, engaging, and age‑appropriate workshops designed to help them understand how to keep themselves safe in different situations. The week provided valuable learning opportunities and encouraged children to think carefully about their own wellbeing and the safety of others.

Workshops and Activities

Over the course of the week, children attended several specialised workshops, each focusing on an important aspect of personal safety:

  • Water Safety:
Pupils learned how to behave responsibly around water, including the dangers of open water, the importance of wearing appropriate flotation devices, and what to do in an emergency.

  • Carbon Monoxide Safety:
Through interactive discussions, children discovered what carbon monoxide is, why it is dangerous, and how families can protect themselves by using alarms and ensuring proper ventilation at home.

  • Caring for Themselves:
A key theme throughout the week was developing independence and awareness. Children explored practical steps they can take to look after themselves physically and emotionally.

Classroom Learning

Alongside workshops, each class took part in a series of PSHE lessons that helped reinforce the message of personal safety:

  • Protective Behaviours:
Pupils discussed feelings of safety, early warning signs, and strategies they can use when they feel uncomfortable or unsure in various situations.

  • Learning to Say “No”:
Children practised how to assert themselves confidently and respectfully when they feel something isn’t right, empowering them to set boundaries in everyday life.

  • The PANTS Rule:
Using the NSPCC PANTS guidance, pupils learned the important message that their body belongs to them, that they have the right to say no, and that they should speak to a trusted adult if they ever feel worried.

  • Internet Safety:
Children explored how to use technology responsibly, recognise unsafe online behaviour, protect their personal information, and seek help if something online makes them feel uncomfortable.

A Successful Week of Learning

Safety Week was a meaningful and empowering experience for all pupils. By taking part in a variety of practical and discussion‑based activities, children deepened their understanding of personal safety in the real world and online. They demonstrated thoughtful engagement, asked excellent questions, and gained valuable skills that will support their wellbeing now and in the future.
