Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education

Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education (PSHE) is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and strategies they need to keep themselves healthy and safe.

At Shustoke, we deliver the PSHE curriculum through a scheme of work called Jigsaw-The mindful approach to PSHE.  This fulfils all the requirements for the statutory Relationships and Health Education outlined by the Department for Education in 2019. The scheme of work also includes opportunities to link British Values and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development (SMSC).

The Jigsaw programme of learning is supplemented by a safety awareness and resilience building programme called Protective Behaviours.

We believe that PSHE plays a vital role in primary education and as well as discrete focused lessons, it is also embedded throughout the curriculum. PSHE is integral to the development of children’s values in order for them to become a positive citizen in a forever changing society. PSHE is an important part of school assemblies where children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity is stimulated, challenged and nurtured.

Our overarching aim is for pupils to be able to talk about choices and make sensible judgements when referring to specific aspects of their safety, health and well-being.
